It's a shame that charms are not marked very often. However, starting in 1960 the US required that trademarks

The attached maker's marks are gleaned from the US trade mark database. It currently includes all manufacturers who listed "charms" as a product prior to 1970.  Once you find a maker, there is some info that you can glean

  1. The name of the company that produced the charm.
  2. The date that the logo was first used.
  3. The most recent date that the trademark was renewed.
  4. The status of trademark. DEAD indicates that the trademark is no longer used, while LIVE indicates that the company may be around.

The database will give a rough indicator of the age of a particular charm. If you don't find the maker, there are several reasons:

  1. The maker mark may come from another county
  2. The company stopped doing business prior to 1960.
  3. Many charm markers did not list charm as their "good and service".
  4. The mark may be registered after 1970.
  5. The mark simply is missing from the database (see the example below).
